We had a good time at Lakewood. We have not been here for five years and not a lot has changed. Overall the campground is great but the bathhouses should be cleaned more than once a day. They were real dirty by mid morning and not cleaned again until the next morning. This is Lakewoods 50th year in business and the campsites show the age. Most of the hook ups are old and some are broken. They need to spend some money on the campsites with new hook ups and general cleaning. Most sites had trash left from other campers and the trees need to be trimmed. I had to cut a few branches from a tree to get our camper in the site. Also picked up trash and burnt firewood left by the last ones to use this site. There is lots of stuff for the kids to do with the Hippo Slide and the pools. The front office people were nice and courteous. I would give this campground a higher rating if the sites would have been better.

This is a great place to go if you like River activities. The campground is right on the New River. The sites are grassy, but not very wide. You are right on top of your neighbors. Also the sites are not real level from side to side. Water pressure is low. They have a small game room with four video games, ping pong table, and a place to shoot basketball. The bathrooms are small with one shower and a toilet. Most people are waiting on the bathrooms, because they are for one person at a time. There are two other showers at the rear of the office. The views are great from this location and the fishing is real good. The tubing operation was enjoyable. The owner kinda cold, and acts like he really does not care. The dump station, if you want to call it that is just a pipe coming out of the rear of the office. You have to back your camper up along side the office to get to the dump. The dump pipe is higher than your camper discharge. I felt like I was in the movie "RV". Real bad. The trains as in other posts are the worst thing about this location. Loud, Loud, Loud. This could be a great little campground if it had larger bathrooms, a real place to dump and more level sites.

This is a nice campground and we enjoyed our stay. This campground has two areas to camp. Upper and lower by the fishing pond. The upper section is by far the better of the two. The owners have done a pretty good job of fixing up the campground, but there is still plenty to do. The pool is not large, but very well kept. The bathhouse was very clean, but it is kinda old and small. The men's has two showers and two toilets with two sinks. I can see that on a busy weekend the bathrooms would not be large enough. The campsites are fairly nice. The pull-throughs with the concrete pads are level and fairly large. The other sites are not real level, and need some tender loving care.(as in new gravel)The roads into and through the campground are narrow and have lots of trees close to the roads. The owners try to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The music on Friday and Saturday nights was great. I would have given this campground a 9 or 10 if the campsites would have been a little better.

This is a great little campground tucked away in the mountains northwest of Lexington. The campsites are pretty nice. Most are level and some have grass. What the office told me was that the campsites where getting a makeover next year. The sites are about average size with a couple that are very large. The bathhouse was always clean, but small for the number of campsites. The pool was nice and has a lifeguard, but this is an extra charge. The lake is beautiful and has hiking trails around it.

For the price paid to camp this place is junky. The sites not well maintained and the bathhouse dirty. The best thing about this place is the swimming lake, the kids love it. (water cold) The owners need to update the campground, roads, and playgrounds.
